Into the next round of the Cup.

Abercarn swept comfortably into the fifth round of the Swalec Bowl when they overwhelmed Penygraig 45 - 5 and will now travel to play Birchgrove on February 27 for a quarter-final place. This was again an excellent team effort, playing conservative, sensible rugby which led to seven tries with outside-half Jamie Baker converting five.

The first try came when the pack drove over the line and Matthew Harper touched down. Lock Mark Curtis was next to score following an attacking line-out. Centre Jack Davies charged down a kick and flanker Jordan Richards crossed the whitewash. Minutes later number eight Lewis James picked up the ball from the back of the scrum, quickly fed scrum-half Rhys Morgan who scampered over the line and the conversation took the halftime score to 26 points to nil.

Morgan scored his second try of the game when he intercepted a pass for Abercarn's fifth try. Despite being on the back foot throughout the game Penygraig finally got on the scoreboard with a well worked try. Swift passing along the back line resulted in a try for winger Aled Brown before Lewis James scored following a scrum drive and Bakers conversion took the final score to 45 points  to 5.

Despite the heavy loss Penygraig warmly welcomed the Abercarn side back at their clubhouse and were excellent hosts.
