A game of two halves.

Abercarn were knocked off the top of the league table when they lost to a spirited Ynysddu side by 18 points to 22. Following an early exchange of penalties, the Ynysddu side grew in confidence and took a stranglehold on the game with their dangerous three-quarters often putting the home side on the back foot. Making the most of poor defending they quickly scored two excellent tries before centre Jamie Baker kicked his second penalty of the match. With the second half approaching the Ynysddu backs again outpaced their opponents to score a third try to extend their lead to 24 points to 6.

Abercarn must have had a stern lecture at half-time after their lackluster first half display because they ripped into their opponents and stopped them from scoring any further points in match. The home side's powerful scrummaging was evident in the early exchanges and they were able to work their way up the pitch. From an attacking lineout the ball was quickly knocked back to hooker Sean Kent who crashed over the whitewash for his second try of the season. Baker was unsuccessful with the difficult conversion but had no problem adding the two points when the Ynysddu side were unable to cope with the pressure at scrums and the referee awarded a penalty try. With a six point gap the home side sensed a possible win and turned down several potential three pointers as they laid siege to the Ynysddu line. They tried everything from scrummaging to driving mauls but at no time when they spread the ball did they look like breaking down the defense. The last five minutes of the game belonged to the visitors when they overturned Abercarn's dominance at scrums and keeping possession were able to run down the clock.

The Man of the Match Award deservedly went to captain Greg Baker for his fearless display throughout the match. Congratulations also were given to Tim Jones who played his 100th game for the club.
