A try fest.

Abercarn swept aside hosts New Tredegar with a crushing bonus point victory that ended 88 points to 33. In a lively opening, Abercarn went straight on the attack and secured their try bonus point within 15 minutes of the kick-off. In all they scored fourteen tries; Andrew Fraser and Owen Coomer each scored a hat trick; there were braces from Jack Davies, Rhys Morgan and Nathan Curtis; Jason Evans crossed the whitewash as did Jamie Baker who also converted six of the tries. New Tredegar finally got on the scoreboard when the visitors took their foot off the pedal. Playing to their strengths by keeping the ball in hand, they rumbled up the pitch and scored a converted try. Abercarn immediately replied with another seven points but the hosts had the final say in the first half by crossing the whitewash twice and at half-time the score was 21 points to 38.

From the restart Abercarn upped the pace of the game and tries were run in from all parts of the pitch. To their credit, New Tredegar never gave up the cause and, as in the first half, they were allowed back into the game and deservedly secured their own try bonus point. Abercarn’s man of the match award was shared by winger Nicky Lloyd and lock Brian Feeney. This Wednesday evening Abercarn welcome Monmouth, to be played at Newbridge Welfare Ground before travelling to Chepstow on Saturday. This is a must win game for both sides as they look to secure a promotion place.
