Sunday was a morning of rugby for the lads with a round robin against both Cwmbran and Chepstow. With Cwmbran being the hosts they opted for Abercarn to play Chepstow first. Abercarn started off strong with some real solid tackling, resulting in turnover ball and 6 unanswered tries in the first half. The boys took their foot off the gas a bit in the second half crossing the Chepstow line only twice but ultimately finishing on top 8-0. Next up were Cwmbran and our boys started very much as they did the first match with some good tackling and went into the interval leading 5-0. After 3 halves of rugby Abercarn were looking like pulling off a clean sheet but the opposition fought their way back and some tired legs resulted in Abercarn leaking a few tries against a Cwmbran side that never gave up. The final score was 8-3 to the green and blacks...
The were some good performances today but a deserved MOM was awarded to Hayden Smith for scoring a great solo try and being the ultimate sportsman and volunteering to play for Chesptow – well done Hayden!!!
