Abercarn RFC is a community-driven rugby club with a proud history of welcoming players of all ages and abilities. As a not-for-profit Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), we focus on growing the game of rugby and supporting our local community. Every penny we raise goes back into the Club to help improve our teams, facilities, and youth programmes, making Abercarn RFC a friendly place where rugby lovers and supporters can come together.

Our Story & Heritage

Founded in 1895, Abercarn RFC has been a cornerstone of the local community for over a century. The Club’s history is marked not only by success on the pitch but also by resilience and community spirit. A poignant chapter in our heritage is linked to the Llandow Air Disaster in 1950, where members of the Welsh rugby community were affected—reminding us of the close-knit bonds that rugby forges.

Over the decades, Abercarn RFC has enjoyed significant on-field achievements, including winning the 2008–09 WRU Division Five East title and the 2009–10 SWALEC Bowl. We have developed outstanding players like Paul Turner and Nathan Budgett, who have gone on to represent Welsh rugby at higher levels. As a feeder club for the Dragons RFC, Abercarn RFC continues to nurture local talent and contribute to the future of the sport in Wales.

Community & Social Life

Abercarn RFC is much more than just rugby. Our clubhouse and facilities are open to the community, hosting social events, fundraisers, and family-friendly activities throughout the year. We have a thriving social scene where members, supporters, and local residents come together to celebrate and support the Club. This sense of community spirit is what makes Abercarn RFC truly special.

Not-for-Profit and CASC Status

As a not-for-profit Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), all Club funds are reinvested into supporting rugby, improving facilities, and delivering community programmes. Profits are never distributed to members or third parties — everything we do is for the benefit of Abercarn RFC and its community.
